Written by: Ayisja Smith Before the Christmas period, we began delivering sessions with young people to raise awareness around homelessness -this included reasons people may become homeless, the stereotypes and barriers that they face, and the impacts of this.
From these sessions, we decided to begin fundraising through selling buns and cakes which were baked in the sessions by the young people which took place over a couple of months. These were sold in different community events such as our community coffee morning, our remembrance day event, our multi-agency wellbeing day, and our annual Christmas production. In January, we looked at different provisions for the homeless with the young people, and decided we would like to donate the money we have raised to Humbercare. We then arranged a visit in the February half term so that the young people who had raised the money could hand over the cheque. During our visit, we met the staff members and some residents at Humbercare who were really grateful for our donation and said that they would put this towards an activity of the resident’s choice in due course - Watch this space!
